AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A delegation appointed by President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani to probe Rukhshana’s stoning by the Taliban in Ghor province, on Sunday promised to follow the case strictly to bring the culprits to the justice.
The delegation comprised of advisor to the president Anayatullah Baleegh, representatives from the Attorney General Office, the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The delegation on Saturday held meeting with Rukhshana’s family in Ghor where they also discussed the issue with local provincial officials and religious scholars.
Baleegh said the government is serious to bring the perpetrators to the justice and assured of fair investigation in the case. “Stoning of Rukhshana is against Islamic teachings and values,” he said.
While condemning the killing of Rukhshana, Provincial Hajj and Religious Affairs director, Mohammad Shah, said that her killing was against the religious teachings and instructions.
“The Taliban insurgents also threatened me,” said Abdul Karim, the father of Rukhshana. However, he asked the government to leave no stone unturned to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to the justice.
The provincial governor, Seema Jaoyenda, said that Rukhshana was killed when Maulvi Yousuf, a local Taliban commander, give fatwa against her. She said that more than 20 people, including Mullah Hashim and Saadyar, were also involved in the killing.
The 19-year-old woman was stoned to death by extremists after she was caught eloping with another man. A graphic video of the stoning shows Rukhshana in a pit in the ground as men almost casually hurl stones at her with sickening thuds.
