AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Twenty-four girls’ schools that previously were closed by the Taliban insurgents, reopened in central Logar province, provincial education officials said on Wednesday.
They said that tribal elders, religious scholars and the government had put their last-ditch efforts to reopen these schools.
Education Department’s spokesman, Mohammad Shapoor Arab, told Pajhwok Afghan News that insurgents had shut down the door of 16 schools in Baraki Barak district, seven in Sarkh district and one in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, over the past few months.
“These schools were reopened and students attend classes,” he said. Moreover, he said that more than 3,000 schoolgirls were busy in pursing education in these schools.
Confirming the schools’ reopening, the governor’s spokesman Salim Saleh said the governor has instructed the concerned officials to appoint female principals in these schools.
“Due to closure of the schools, a large number of schoolgirls were deprived of education,” said Ezzatullah, a resident of Baraki Barak district. He said that his three daughters had been deprived of education for five months as the Taliban insurgents had closed the door of education for them.
