By Akhtar M.Nikzad-KABUL: Kabul University (KU) marked the 90th birth anniversary of the renowned literary figure Mir Hussain Shah, a former lecturer of Faculty of Social Sciences.
The scientific and research seminar was attended by the university lecturers, members of Afghanistan Academy of Sciences, intellectuals and governmental officials, on Saturday.
Chancellor of the Kabul University, Habibullah Habib said that Hussain Shah was one of the outstanding lecturers of Kabul University who spent 30 years of his life in training of young generations in f social sciences (formerly part of the faculty of literacy and human resource). He said that breaking the culture, they remembered someone’s invaluable services during his lifetime as usually different organizations observe days of historians and intellectuals after their death.
He said that by organizing such a seminar on Mir Hussain Shah they actually wanted to promote the culture of scholarship, knowledge and academic excellence.
Talking on Hussain Shah’s scholarly services, Ghulam Farooq Abdullah, the chief of Faculty of Social Sciences, said that Shah stood out in academic excellence as he was a man of enviable intellect, brilliance, and towered above his contemporaries in Afghanistan’s history.
He said that Hussain Shah has not only been famous at home country but abroad as well for his academic services and scholarly research papers.
He added that former governments offered him ministerial positions but he turned them down and clung to services in education. He added the purpose of holding such a seminar will also encourage young lecturers to follow hi suit and achieve excellence in academic services. He called on the government to name a department in the Kabul University after Shah’s name so that his name becomes a mark of service to education.
President Ashraf Ghani in his official massage said that remembering the services of a man of shcolarhip and academic excellecen will promote the culture of knowledge, education and research. The president commended his tireless efforts to promoting the culture competition in academia.
Mir Hussain Shah was born in an intellectual family in Kwaja Shar village of Kandahar province in 1304 (solar year). He completed his primary education in Ahmad Shahi School in Kandahar and graduated from Habibia High School in Kabul City.
He got his higher education in Faculty of Literacy of Kabul University and received a Masters degree from Laknaho University in India and taught for 30 years in Kabul University. He wrote tens of scientific articles which were published in national and international journals. When the civil war broke out in the country, Shah left for the United States.
