AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: As many as 20 passengers have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Saturday morning in southern Zabul province, said local officials.
The Deputy Police Chief of Zabul province, Ghulam Jailani Farahi, confirmed the kidnapping and said the incident took place on Kabul Kandahar highway, between Shah Joy district and the provincial capital Qalat, on Saturday morning.
“The unidentified gunmen stopped several buses on Kabul-Kandahar highway at gunpoint and kidnapped 20 passengers,” he added.
According to some sources, the all of the kidnapped people were from Hazara ethnic minority.
A manager for the Ahmad Shah Abdali transportation company, Sayed Mohibullah, said the gunmen asked for the civilians’ identity documents and only kidnapped people from Hazara ethnic minority.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the incident yet.
The incident came around two weeks after that fighters loyal to Daesh beheaded seven ethnic Hazara hostages in Khak-e-Afghan district of the same province. The beheading triggered massive protests in Kabul city and other provinces.
