AT-KABUL: The Afghan Air Force (AAF) is playing a very significant role in suppressing the anti-government armed elements across the country, a security official said.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Gen. Dawlat Waziri, said the intentional community is paying more attention toward rehabilitation of the Afghan Air Force.
“This attention of the international community is coming after the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces shouldered full security lead from the NATO-led coalition forces two years ago,” he said.
Around 300 AAF personnel are under training in foreign countries such as India, Italy, United States, Czech, United Arab Emirates and China, he added.
Moreover, he said that AAF has received several aircrafts, including fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts during past two years.
Hinting to the current Helmand clashes, he said that AAF is playing a very important role in suppressing the Taliban insurgents there.
The Taliban insurgents launched multiple attacks across the country, but the worse of it was in Helmand as hundreds of people were displaced during fierce fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents in different districts of the province.
The displaced families are in dire situation as they face shortages of food and potable water.
The Afghan security forces are fighting the Taliban with high spirit, but still they failed to push back the insurgents from the area.
