AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah is planned to leave for India today (Sunday) to attend a counterterrorism conference scheduled to be held in Jaipur on Tuesday.
An Indian news agency reported that Abdullah will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Newd Delhi ahead of the conference.
“He is going to hold talks with Modi on Monday and to meet Swaraj at Hyderabad House,” the report said.
Abdullah will leave New Delhi for Jaipur on Tuesday and attend the inaugural session of the counter-terrorism conference, the report added.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is expecting to inaugurate the conference.
India Foundation in cooperation with the Rajasthan government has organized the conference where high ranking Indian officials including Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval might participate in the event.
Abdullah’s visit comes nearly one month after a terrorist attack targeted Indian consulate in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
The Jaish-e-Muhammed terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack which was thwarted by security forces’ timely action.
Former Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Amir Sinha in a visit to Mazar-e-Sharif lauded Afghan security forces for their efforts and timely action against militants. He also assured his country’s readiness to provide medical treatment for those Afghan security forces who received injuries while protecting Indian consulate staffers.
The attack left one police killed while nine others received injuries.
The new building for the Afghan parliament built by the government of India was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Modi on December 25.
