Kabul: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has expressed concern about the “funding gaps” caused by the reduction in humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
OCHA wrote on X’s social media page on Sunday, that due to insufficient funds, more than 36.6 thousand children under the age of five were deprived of aid packages in Afghanistan.
Based on this report, the access of about 100,000 people to primary health services in the country has decreased due to the lack of funds.
This is despite the fact that last month OCHA announced that the reduction of 1.3 billion dollars in the budget of this institution will cause a number of vulnerable people in Afghanistan to face hunger, disease and even death in the cold season.
This institution added that due to the lowering of the budget ceiling, only five million of the nine million vulnerable Afghans are now receiving aid.
Besides this, about 262 mobile health centers that were working in the health sector for two million Afghans have also been forced to stop providing services.
According to OCHA information, this institution has received only 801 million dollars of funding this year, which provides about 25% of the needs.
