KABUL: Afghan Cricket Star Rashid Khan Arman has been appointed as Afghanistan National Cricket Team Captain in all three formats, and has replaced Gulbadin Naib, who had been under pressure by critics after no win in all nine matches of the Cricket World Cup in England.
The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) named leg spinner Rashid Khan captain across all the major formats on Friday, despite a disappointing World Cup for the Twenty20 sensation.
This comes after Asghar Afghan, the former captain of the team was removed from the post on April 19 after the cricket board opted for split captaincy, with Gulbadin Naib for ODI, Rahmat Shah for the Test side, and Rashid Khan Arman for Twenty20 International matches.
Afghan’s removal from captaincy was faced criticism by a number of well-known players of the team, including Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.
Moreover, Asghar Afghan appointed Vice-Captain, the ACB said.
Khan came into the World Cup as cricket’s hottest property after catching the eye with his leg spinners for minnows Afghanistan.
But the Twenty20 star, who played a leading role for many sides in franchise cricket across the globe, claimed only six wickets in nine games as the Afghans returned home without notching up a single win.
However, though Afghanistan is nascent in Cricket world, but still managed to achieve tremendous achievements. However, Afghan cricket stars did not shin in second World Cup, where they failed to win at least one match. There are major questions over their batting strength and lack of quality seam bowlers.
