Kabul: Abdul Salam Hanafi, Afghan deputy chief, disclosed that the they have formally requested an invitation to attend the 15th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This request was made during a meeting between Hanafi and Tariq Ali Bakhit, OIC’s deputy for humanitarian affairs.
Hanafi also extended an invitation to the OIC secretary-general to visit Afghanistan, emphasizing the Taliban’s commitment to non-interference in other nations’ affairs while expecting reciprocal respect for Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
Despite ongoing pressure from the OIC urging the Taliban to allow girls and women access to education by reopening schools and universities, such reforms have yet to be implemented by the Taliban administration.
The upcoming 15th meeting of foreign ministers is scheduled to be held in Gambia. Previously, the OIC delegation engaged with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, including discussions with officials responsible for family and cultural affairs, as well as empowerment within the organization.
