AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan envoy to Islamabad Omer Zakhilwal has called on President Ashraf Ghani to appoint a new ambassador to Pakistan and replace him with immediate effect, sources revealed on Monday.
With a vision to improve political relationships between Kabul and Islamabad, Omer Zakhilwal was appointed as ambassador to Pakistan by the President Ashraf Ghani through a Presidential decree. However, after two-year diplomatic assignment in Islamabad, Zakhilwal has informed President Ghani regarding his decision of quitting ambassadorial assignment in Pakistan.
According to sources, Zakhilwal would continue his job until his successor was appointed.
Moreover, an official on the condition of anonymity said Zakhilwal has been deliberately decided to quit his ambassadorial job in Pakistan, adding new envoy to Islamabad would be appointed in the nearest time.
He added, neither Zakhilwal has yet asked for another government assignment, nor President Ghani has offered him any other assignment in the country or abroad.
Probably, Zakhilwal has been planning to contest next year Presidential election and moves forward to run a public campaign in his favor.
