HERAT: The numbers of female officers have been increased in security forces ranks and they are getting strengthened in western Herat province.
They are now able to carry out military operations after they received a number of training courses such as search and using heavy and light weapons.
One of these female officers said, “Military sector is not just for men. We are also attached to this system and we will serve our brothers shoulder-to-shoulder and defend ourselves and our country.”
A group of women of the national army carried out a series of military exercises in the 207 Zafar military corps on 23 December in the Guzara district of Herat province.
According to security officials, women are capable of performing their duties as men in the ranks of the Afghan national army.
Colonel Mohammad Nader Afzali, Commander of the 207 Zafar military training center, said that women are being taught by their Afghan mentors and their abilities have improved considerably than the past.
“Female soldiers are capable of performing their duties under any kind of situation,” Afzali said.
He added “Participating in operations against the enemy and searching people homes is one of the main tasks of Afghan women army, which they carry this successfully.”
In the wake of peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban group, female officers are now demanding more women in the military. They have stressed for the preservation of women achievements gained in the last two decades.
Female officers of the national army like their civilian counterparts are committed to protection of women’s achievements and will not allow anyone to impose restrictions on them.
Second Lieutenant, Fatima Alizada said achievements of the past 20 years are not negotiable during the peace talks with the Taliban.
“The place, in which we have been brought in as soldiers and officers of the national army must be maintained in the peace talks,” she said.
“Our representatives, as part of the government delegation must defend from our rights,” Alizada said.
