KABUL: At least 25 Taliban insurgents have been killed in separate operations carried out by the Afghan security forces in southern Zabul and Uruzgan provinces, Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Sunday.
The statement said at least 14 Taliban were killed in an airstrike conducted in Shahr-e-Safa district of Zabul. The Afghan security forces also destroyed weapons and explosive devices, the statement added.
In another operation of the Afghan Special Forces on Saturday night in Trinko, the capital city of Uruzgan province, at least 11 Taliban insurgents, includes their commander “Mullah Mohammad Akbar Mutaqi, were killed.
The operation that was backed by air forces, four strongholds of the Taliban insurgents, vehicles and weapons were also demolished, the statement added.
The Taliban group did not comment in the operation so far.
