KABUL: Afghan security forces have launched an intensive military offensive against insurgents in Northern Kunduz province, said an official source. Afghan National Army (ANA) commando forces are for the first time leading the clearance operation.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Zahir Azimi, the operation was launched by Afghan army and commando forces in various parts of Kunduz province. “Afghan forces will spare no efforts to clear the province form presence of armed militants,” he added. He did not reveal about the casualties inflected to both sides.
This comes at a time that recently a report published in New York Times said that insurgents were rising again in Afghanistan’s north.
It is worth mentioning that President Ashraf Ghani in a joint press conference with NATO chief said that foreign troops’ combat mission would come to an end in next two months. The international forces’ new mission in Afghanistan would include training, equipping and support of Afghan forces.
