KABUL: The Afghan security forces repelled a coordinated Taliban attack in Dawlat Abad district of northern Faryab province, and killed 14 fighters, officials said.
Taliban fighters had massively attacked security checkpoints on Saturday evening which faced a timely response by the alert Afghan security forces, said 209 Shaheen Military Corps in Balkh in a statement on Sunday.
14 Taliban fighters, including Haji Naser father of the Taliban’s district chief for Shirin Tagab, were killed and 11 others including Mullah Zarqawi the group’s red unit commander were wounded in the clash, the statement added.
Faryab is one of the volatile provinces in the north, where the Taliban insurgents are broadly active in its districts.
