KABUL: Late Monday night, the Afghan Special Forces stormed a Taliban compound in northern Baghlan province that was used as a prison, holding dozens of Afghan security forces and civilians. The Afghan Commando Special Forces raided the jail and rescued 42 people, including security members, officials said on Tuesday.
The rescue operation was conducted in the Ali Khowaja area of Baghlan-e-Markazi in northern Baghlan province, said Spokesman for the Special Operations Corps, Abdul Ghafar Nuristani.
25 members of Afghan Security Force and 17 civilians were set free from Taliban captivity.
The rescued people were shifted to Mazar-e-Sharif, the neighborhood province for further proceedings, Mr. Nuristani added.
“They were badly tortured by Taliban in the prison.”
It is worth mentioning that the Afghan security forces have released many civilians and security members from Taliban lockups in different provinces in the past one year.
Despite ongoing peace talks in Doha to end the conflict, the Afghan and Taliban have engaged in intensive fighting in contrast to the expectations of the Afghan civilians. There was a hope of a ceasefire and reduction of violence as a result of peace talks, but none of it happened, rather war has been intensified around the country.
Just in the past two days, the Afghan security forces killed over 100 Taliban insurgents in the spate of anti-militants operations across the country.
