AT-KABUL: Afghan security forces backed by air strikes have recaptured Tala wa Barfak district in the northern Baghlan province after days of fighting with Taliban insurgentssince the district fell to the Taliban, officials said on Friday. One week ago, the rebel group attacked government and security buildings in Tala Wa Barfak district and overran it after several hours of clashes with government forces.
Afghan Special Forces had made advancements against insurgents since Thursday evening in Tala wa Barfak district,the ministry of defense said on Friday. The Afghan forces offensive has taken toll on the rebel group as at least 12 insurgents have been killed, seven others injured with several rebel trenches routed.
The control of the district was taken during the operations of the armed forces and as a result the district has been fully cleared of the militants. The source further added that the Afghan forces have also cleared the landmines and improvised explosive devices planted by the militants.
Security forces have advanced towards the district center, he said. They have also launched operations from the Bamyan province side as well.He said civilians suffered no casualties during the operations while three security forces injured as a result of mortar shell.
Police Spokesman Zabihullah Shujae confirmed clash in the Shutar Jangal area of Barfak district and added security forces have moved on towards the district centre.
The Taliban have not yet spoken about clash in Barfak district.
