KABUL: Six Taliban prisoners, who were already sentenced to death penalty by Afghan courts, were executed on Sunday in capital Kabul, officials said.
The Taliban members were involved in terrorist attacks and killing of incident people and were executed today after their death sentences were signed by President, Ashraf Ghani, presidential palace said in a statement.
The sentences were signed by president in compliance with the Afghan constitution and laws, after a transparent review of the judicial process the government said.
This was the first time in the past 14 years that Afghan government executes several Taliban in a single day.
President decided to sign the death sentences of militants after a deadly Taliban bombing in Kabul last month killed 64 and wounded 347, mostly civilians. The attacked widely sparked anger of the citizens and politicians, who asked president to execute the terrorists, responsible for killing innocent Afghans.
