AT-KABUL: More than 26 terrorists belonging to the Islamic State terror group have been arrested in raids conducted by intelligence operatives in Kabul, foiling plots of disrupting the coming Ashura rituals, said National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Tuesday.
They had come to Kabul from across Afghanistan and were preparing for massive assaults during the mourning days of Muharram and the Ashura memorial services, an NDS statement stated.
Special unit of intelligence forces raided several terrorist hideouts in Kabul and arrested a group of 26 Daesh terrorists who had been plotting to attack Muharram mourners in Kabul city by carrying out suicide and terrorist attacks.
Members of the group led by a terrorist named Abdullah were captured in different intelligence-based operations across Kabul city over the past days, added statement.
Afghan forces have taken strict security measures during the holy days of Muharramul Haram, and have thus far arrested many terrorists, foiling potential terrorist attacks.
