Kabul: Afghan journalists in Pakistan held protests calling for their situation to be addressed by relevant organizations for their evacuations to be facilitated.
Mahmoud Kochi, one of the Afghan journalists in Pakistan, during the protest meeting today told media that they are facing serious problems and have been homeless for more than a year.
He said: “There is a visa problem and the journalists’ visas have expired; Police harass journalists. Besides this, journalists and media workers have economic problems because they cannot work. Journalists’ children can’t get an education either.”
Khatira Ahmadi, another organizer of this program, says that the world does not care about Afghan journalists.
She said “The cases of journalists have not yet been dealt with and the world has turned a blind eye to Afghan journalists in Pakistan.”
These journalists are demanding resettlement and financial support from international institutions and countries receiving immigrants.
They say that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) should prioritize the cases of journalists and deal with their visa challenges.
After the fall of government in Afghanistan a number of journalists fled to Pakistan.
