AT News Report-KABUL: The leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan emphasized on the finalization of the Afghan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) in a meeting that took place during Pakistan prime minister’s visit to Kabul.
President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi agreed that the two countries’ foreign ministers and national security advisers start work on the finalization of the action plan.
Presidential office said Saturday that commitments from the two countries are included the text of the action plan.
President Ghani’s Spokesman, Shah Hossein Mortazawi, said that Pakistan’s premier also welcomed Afghan government’s peace offer to Taliban, and promised his country’s cooperation.
“President Ghani in meeting with prime minister Abbasi emphasized that peace in Afghanistan would help peace in the region. Prime Minister Abbasi supported the peace offer from Afghan government to Taliban and promised his country would support the Afghan-led peace program,” Mortazawi said.
The two sides also discussed Pakistan’s rocket attacks on Afghan soil, regional cooperation, power transit from Central Asia to Pakistan through Afghanistan and preparing documents over prisoner swap, according to Mortazawi.
They also talked on the Quetta-Kandahar-Herat, Peshawar-Jalalabad railways and Peshawar-Jalalabad-Kabul road projects.
Abbasi during a one-day trip to Afghanistan, also met chief executive Abdullah Abdullah, in which he said Islamabad was ready to provide opportunity for the Afghan peace.
Abdullah reportedly emphasized on the trust-building, saying it would be possible when war is over in Afghanistan.
The visit took place amid a tense relation between Kabul and Islamabad who accuse each other of sheltering and supporting militant groups against the other side.
Sher Mohammad Karimi, a military analyst said that amid the mistrusts, there was a hope that the bilateral relationships would improve.
“If Pakistan fulfills its promises like stopping rocket attacks on Afghanistan, it will be a green signal and our people will be optimistic for the future,” Karimi said.
