AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Following recent reports regarding likely breakthrough in the peace talks between Afghan government and Taliban, Senate Chairman, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, said that Pakistan was not loyal and honest in assisting Afghan peace process. “I have doubt over promises made by Pakistan officials about support for the Afghan-led reconciliation process,” Muslimyar said.
“It was Pakistan who supported insurgents group openly and covertly in the past,” he said. He added that if the Taliban insurgents shun violence and reintegrated into civil society, so what was the guarantee that Pakistan would not keep on proxy war in Afghanistan through other insurgent groups. “President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani must be alerted all time when dealing with Pakistan in this regard,” Muslimyar further added.
We desperately want peace, he said, however, adding that Pakistan’s honesty is still under question.
In the past several such promises were made but proved water-bubble. That’s why Muslimyar is concerned and not sure whether this time Pakistan is honest and will come forward to play its role in peace process sincerely, Qais Daudzai, an Afghan analyst said.
Backing Muslimyar’s standpoint, Amrullah Saleh, the former spymaster, also raised blame finger over Pakistan’s backing to the Taliban insurgents. “Until Pakistan supporting Taliban we cannot resolve other problems that we have,” he said during a trilateral conference titled “China, India, the UK and Afghanistan, a partnership for stability” in New Delhi, India.
