KABUL: The Afghan security forces have thwarted a Taliban attack on Sighan district of central Bamyan province, an official said, an official said on Monday.
Provincial Police Chief Zabardast Safi said that intensive clashes erupted between the two sides for several hours that forced the Taliban to flee the district after suffering heavy causalities.
Safi said that Taliban entered the district from Tala-o-Barfak district of neighboring Baghlan province.
Safi assured the residents of Bamyan that security forces are stationed in the bordering areas of the province and will make all out efforts to prevent Taliban entrance into the province.
Separately, the Afghan security forces pushed back Taliban assault on Jerm, Tagab, Kesham and Baharak district of northern Badakhshan province, said Deputy Defense Ministry spokesman FawadAman.
Aman said that the public uprising had an active role in repealing Taliban’s attacks.
Local officials said that more than 40 Taliban militants were killed during the clashes.
Taliban have not commented regarding it so far.
Badakhshan is tumultuous province in the north, where Taliban are strongly active in many parts of the province, many times carry out deadly attacks on the security forces.
