KABUL: Amid great security challenges in western parts of the country, theActing Defense Minister Assadullah Khalid and US, NATO commander for Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller Monday visited western Farah province, where they held discussion over security situations with top provincial security officials.
Addressing the security officials, Khalid said they visited the province fined grey areas in security lapse in a bid to take steps to resolve it.“We are here to listen to challenges and resolve it, he said.
While reiterating US supports from the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), Gen. Miller,said his tripe meant to meet with the security officials in the province.“We came to Farah with the ANDSF leadership to meet with the security leaders, supporting the people’s quest for peace, “he said.
Also, Provincial Governor ShoaibSabittold the security delegates that the Afghan and foreign forces jointly conducting military operationsagainst the militants.
On the other hand, theProvincial Police Chief, MohiuddinKhairkhwa said the locals have been tasked to cooperate with the security forces and protect their lands from the insurgents. “We have gain good success, but need to do more,” he said.
Farah is among insecure provinces in the west of Afghanistan, where the Taliban have so farhighly engaged onsubversive activities as on Monday a Taliban member opened fire on his family members killing of 12 and wounding six others.
