Kabul: The U.N. General Assembly will vote Tuesday to admit 14 countries to the 47-member of Human Rights Council.
Afghanistan will face Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, South Korea and Vietnam in its regional group for four vacant seats.
The members of the Human Rights Council consist of representatives of 47 countries who are elected by vote for a period of three years.
The distribution of seats in the Council is equal based on geographical presence: 13 seats for the African group, 13 seats for the Asian group, six seats for the Eastern European group, eight seats for the Latin American and Caribbean group and seven seats for the Western European group and other countries.
The diplomatic representation of Afghanistan in Geneva, which is under the control of the diplomats of the previous government, has said in a statement on the eve of these elections that a seat in the Human Rights Council will be a vital opportunity to continue the voices, concerns, demands and daily realities of the suffering of the Afghan people.
