Kabul: The Iranian Special Representative and Ambassador to Kabul, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the UN’s two-day meeting in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran tweeted that Mr Qomi stressed that the Afghanistan crisis could only be resolved through regional cooperation with the support of the United Nations.
In this meeting, Guterres appreciated his ten-year work experience with the Islamic Republic and thanked Iran for its generous efforts in the field of Afghan refugees living in Iran.
Iranian Embassy in Kabul further stated that “the importance of the UN’s constructive role in solving the crisis and maintaining its independence in decision-making was emphasized during the meeting.”
The head of Iran’s embassy in Kabul had previously emphasized in a tweet on the occasion of his trip to Doha to participate in a meeting related to Afghanistan, that the Afghan crisis has a regional solution.
The two-day Doha meeting on Afghanistan with the presence of the UN Secretary General and special representatives of 21 countries and 2 international organizations ended on Tuesday.
In a press conference at the end of this meeting, the Secretary General of the United Nations stated that all the participants of this meeting agreed that an interactive strategy is needed for the stability of Afghanistan. He also assured the people of Afghanistan about the continued assistance of this organization, but said that this meeting was not for the recognition of the Taliban government.
