KABUL – Afghanistan’s exports have surpassed $1.6 billion in the past 10 months, according to the Ministry of Finance under Taliban administration. The ministry highlighted the diverse nature of these exports, with a substantial portion consisting of 43 billion Afghanis ($612 million) in fruits, 16 billion Afghanis ($217 million) in cotton, and 17 billion Afghanis ($231 million) in vegetables.
The primary recipients of Afghanistan’s exports are identified as Pakistan, India, and the United Arab Emirates, marking key trade relationships for the nation. The figures were released on Sunday by the Taliban-run Ministry of Finance, shedding light on the country’s economic performance amid various challenges.
Notably, the announcement follows the Taliban’s declaration in December that Afghanistan’s total exports for the year 2023 had reached $1.717 billion. Online data further indicates a positive trend, showing an increase in exports from $1.05 billion in 2021 to $1.837 billion in 2022.
Examining the historical context, Afghanistan’s exports have seen fluctuations over the years. Since the year 2000, the average stands at $537.54 million, reaching a record high of $1.837 billion in 2022. However, the nation experienced a record low of $69.10 million in 2002, reflecting the impact of historical events on its economic landscape.
