KABUL – Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) celebrates its 10th anniversary, with a report from the UN’s Humanitarian Coordinator revealing a sharp increase in the need for assistance in Afghanistan over the past decade.
Since its founding in 2014, the AHF has delivered life-saving support to over 86 million Afghans, facilitating rapid responses to crises. On October 27, the UN published a report highlighting the fund’s impact and the persistent challenges facing Afghanistan, including ongoing conflict, political upheaval, drought, earthquakes, food insecurity, the COVID-19 pandemic, and poverty.
Despite these efforts, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that over 23 million Afghans still rely on humanitarian aid. Joyce Msuya, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has called on the global community to renew support for the AHF, stressing its vital role in addressing the nation’s urgent humanitarian needs.
