KABUL: An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 rocked northern Afghanistan on Sunday morning with its tremors jolting parts of India.
The quake struck at 79 kilometers southeast of Faizabad in Badakhshan province and its epicentre was at a depth of 220 kilometers under the earth’s surface, according to India’s National Centre for Seismology.
The earthquake struck at around 10.19 am as the tremors were also felt in various locations around Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. The tremors lasted for a few seconds. However, no instance of any casualty, injuries or damage has been reported.
European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), however, reported the quake was of a magnitude of 5.9 and was felt 70 km east-southeast of Faizabad city.
The earthquake shocks in Pakistan were felt in the capital Islamabad as well as the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
