AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Amidst Kabul’s struggles to bring the Taliban to the table of negotiations and establish joint efforts with Islamabad in war on terror, Pakistani Prime Minister’s Advisor on National and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, said Sunday that the Afghan government and the Taliban have formed committees for talks, and the two neighboring countries would never allow their soil to be used against each other.
Pakistani media outlets reported that Aziz stated this at a conference organized in Islamabad by Think Tanks Forum of the Islamic Countries with theme “Addressing Multi-Dimensional Security Challenges”.
He however avoided explanation to the questions regarding initial contacts between the Afghan government and the Taliban militants. “Let us see what happen next and commenting over the issue on this stage is too earlier,” he said.
Aziz said that Pakistan would continue its support for Afghan reconciliation process, adding that Pakistan and Afghanistan were brotherly country and they would not allow anyone to use its soil against each other.
In his keynote address, he gives insight into demography and resources of the Muslim world saying 57 countries of the Muslims have 70 percent of the world energy resources. He said that the Muslim world is facing challenges like extremism, terrorism, poverty and other. He stressed close coordination not only among Islamic countries, but also with other countries of the world address the challenges.
He elaborated that Pakistan have excellent ties with China and Iran as well as developed good ties with Afghanistan. He said that engagement with India is going on and Pakistan also wants good ties and reducing tension with New Delhi.
It comes as the Chief Executive of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, recently said that the peace talks would kick off within weeks. He said that they had good news regarding the reconciliation process.
Afghan critics have mix viewpoints and concerns in this regard, but most of them believe that the peace process would succeed if Pakistan implements its commitments in this regard and remain honest towards its promises it had made for supporting the peace talks and bringing the Taliban to the table of negotiations.
