AT News Report-KABUL: The government will spend more than $200 million on extending hydroelectric power production and reservoir capacity of the Kajaki Dam in southern Helmand province, government officials said.
Water and energy minister, Ali Ahmad Osmani, said the government planned to implement hydropower projects to address certain grievances in the country’s water management. And the government will also plow $200 million into increasing the reservoir and production capacities of the Kajaki Dam, he said at a press conference in Helmand on Monday, where governors of Helmand and Nimroz as well as provincial council members were also present.
“We also will implement projects in MosaQala, Nawzad and Nahr-e-Sarajhydropower dams,” he said, “As we have already completed the initial stages of projects of MosaQala dam and procurement operations are underway for Nawzad and Nahr-e-Saraj dams”.
He called upon local communities and their chieftains to support the government for the implementation of the landmark hydropower projects.
