KABUL: Afghanistan was handed over the first package of surveillance radars on Saturday, said the Civil Aviation Authority, a measure which will help foster airspace control and prevent from imminent militant attacks.
Delivered at part of a €112m contract with Thales French Company, the radars will be installed in different spots across Afghanistan.
“These radars will be installed in twelve regions across the country and will enable control and surveillance of Afghanistan’s airspace from zero point to 45,000 feet,” the agency said.
This happens in the wake of installation of an air defense system at Kabul airport. The missile defense system will protect the crucial airport against rocket and missile attacks.
These are part of preparations for a prospective mission of Turkish government to provide security for Kabul airport and a deal is being hammered out between Ankara and Washington.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently said that an agreement had been reached with the United States on how to secure Kabul airport under Turkish administration. The Turkish mission is scheduled to begin after the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan.
