Afghanistan security situation is challenging: Moscow

AT-KABUL: The number of terrorist attacks is on the rise in Afghanistan, and security situation in Afghanistan remained a challenging, Russian officials said.

“We urge the warring parties in Afghanistan, primarily the leaders of the Taliban movement, to renounce violence and to take urgent action to launch intra-Afghan dialogue,” Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told newsmen in Moscow.

Hinting toward the recent deadliest attacks in Afghanistan the spokeswoman, said, “We resolutely condemn these heinous crimes perpetrated by the terrorist. There can be no justification for them.”

“Our sympathy and support go out to all of the victims, to the families of the deceased and to our colleagues, foreign diplomats. We hope that the masterminds and perpetrators of these terrorist attacks will receive the punishment they deserve,” she added.

This comes as Russia, China and Pakistan recently discussed regional issues including Afghanistan security situation and also the increasing activities of extremists groups like Islamic State also known as Daesh terrorist group at a high-level meeting held in Moscow. However, there was no inclusion of Afghan representatives in the meeting that sparked anger of Afghan official at home.

According to a press release issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Pakistani and Chinese delegates met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov after the trilateral meeting.

The parties pointed to the “worsening” security situation in Afghanistan, expressing concerns about intensifying activities by extremist groups in the country, including the Afghan branch of IS, the statement said.

“The participants agreed to continue efforts to assist in furthering the national reconciliation process in Afghanistan, based on the key role of the Afghans themselves and in line with the principles of integrating the armed opposition into peaceful life,” the statement added.

It is worth mentioning that a large number of Afghan politicians and civil society activists strongly condemned the trilateral meeting on Afghanistan which held on 27th December in Moscow. They urge Russia to focus on state-to-state relations in order to fight terrorism.

Terming the December 27th moot an act of interference in Afghan affairs, activists and politicians said that Moscow’s growing ties with the Taliban would destabilize the region and fuel terrorism further.
