KABUL: The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission on Sunday reported an 80 percent increase in civilians casualties in first two quarter of this year compare to the same period of 2020.
According to the report, 1,677 civilians were killed and 3,644 others wounded in the initial six months of the year. During this period, 1,594 security incidents took place. In a similar period of 2020, the reports said at least 1,213 civilians were killed and 1,744 others wounded, the report said.
The casualties of 2021 included 154 women and 350 others wounded. The figure of women casualties in 2020, was reported 126 killed and 171 wounded.
The report put the number of children died in 2021 to 372 and wounded 1,083. The Watchdog called the Taliban responsible for 56 percent of the casualties with killing 917 people and wounding 2,061. The pro-government forces are responsible for 15 percent of the casualties – 229 killed, 565 injured. The unidentified perpetrators inflicted 22 percent of the casualties and the Daesh extremist group was responsible for 7 percent.
In 451 incidents, a total of 1,987 civilians have been harmed by IED blasts, roadside mines, car-bombs, and exploding mines or ordnance. This includes 587 civilians killed, and 1,400 others injured, the report says.
This comes as the armed conflicts between the government and Taliban has been significantly surged with the Taliban ramping up pressure on the government through staging attacks nationwide.
