KABUL: At least 915 people have been infected with coronavirus in Afghanistan over the past day in 14 out of 34 provinces – the biggest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.
This figure pushed Afghanistan’s coronavirus cases to 18,969, according to health officials.
Kabul city tops the list with 423 patients, followed by Herat with 201 cases. Public health ministry has recorded at least 116 cases in Balkh, 29 in Kunduz, 21 in Kandahar, 21 in Farah and 21 in Sar-e-Pul provinces. In Helmand, 20 people tested positive, followed by Samangan with 15 patients, Paktia with 11 cases, Nangarhar with 7, Maidan Wardak with 4, said the ministry.
At least 178 have recovered from the disease and nine people dies, amounting to a total of 393 deaths. More than 1,500 patients have recovered since the outbreak began.
Earlier, Vice President Amrullah Saleh called on the nation to take the pandemic serious, as Afghanistan is going through a disastrous condition as the virus has been rapidly increasing.
