AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghanistan can benefit from the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BKT) railway project and speed up the rebuilding process, Azerbaijani political analyst said on Sunday.
Fikret Sadikhov told Trend News Agency that Afghanistan and Azerbaijan have close trade and commerce ties and the two countries planned to implement different projects in the field of transportation and logistics.
He is of the opinion that Afghanistan could use the BKT railway for transporting its cargo.
President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani is expected to leave for Baku on Tuesday where he would discuss different projects with his counterpart, including TAPI and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
The analyst said that it would not be the first meeting of Afghan and Azerbaijani authorities, but the presidents of the two countries have already met in various international summits and discussed the intensive bilateral ties in different sectors.
It is pertinent to mention that in June this year, Afghan Ambassador to Azerbaijan said that Afghanistan had the opportunity to join the important Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project which will help the country to speed up the rebuilding process.
Mohammad Taqi Khalili told Trend News Agency, that Afghanistan could join the railway project through the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, which connects Turkmenistan with Afghanistan.
The ambassador said that Azerbaijan is playing significant role in implementation of the railway project which would help the region to explore new markets for their products. Khalili said: “This route [Baku-Tbilisi-Kars] is shorter and cheaper for Afghanistan, for exports and imports.”
Speaking about bilateral ties between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, he said that relations between the two neighboring countries were growing rapidly. He hoped that ties between the two countries would improve further in different fields.
