KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Sunday said that ties between Afghanistan and Turkey were moving ahead with tandem, which would help the peace drive more successful.
Speaking at a ceremony marking 94th year of Kabul- Ankara friendship, Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai said both the countries had shared religious, historic and cultural ties.
He said Turkey has played important role in improving security and stability in Afghanistan. The Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) of that country has implemented numerous projects in Maidan Wardak and Jawzjan provinces, Karzai added.
Karzai lauded the economic and political cooperation extended by Turkey and said the project of Jalaluddin Balkhi University in the capital Kabul was of great importance for Afghanistan in the education sector.
Turkey’s honest and effective efforts in improving cooperation among regional states and hosting trilateral meetings between Afghanistan, Turkey and Pakistan through Istanbul Process was a commendable job, he added.
Devrim Ozturk, Turkey’s embassy Charge d’affaires said 94 years back Turkey and Afghanistan signed friendship agreement which resulted in opening of embassies in both countries. He appreciated that Afghanistan was the first country to recognize Turkey’s independence. (PAN)
