KABUL – Afghanistan’s Embassy in Australia on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to providing consular services despite ongoing attempts by the Taliban to disrupt its operations. The embassy condemned recent efforts by the Taliban to interfere with consular activities of Afghan diplomatic missions representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
“These actions reflect the Taliban’s approach of harassment and blatant violations of fundamental and human rights, as well as international conventions,” the statement declared. “Lacking both domestic and international legitimacy, they continue to subject our citizens to harassment, even outside of Afghanistan.”
The Taliban-run Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently declared that official documents issued by Afghan embassies in select European countries, as well as in Canada and Australia, would no longer be recognized as valid. The ministry has repeatedly called on Afghan embassies in European nations to align with Taliban authorities to resolve consular issues impacting Afghan citizens abroad.
In response to these demands, some Afghan missions in Europe, including the embassy in the United Kingdom, have ceased their operations. However, Afghanistan’s Embassy in Australia has vowed to continue its services, standing in defiance of Taliban pressures and underscoring its dedication to Afghan nationals in Australia.
