KABUL: The first Afghanistan Saffron Institute would be inaugurated by the end of this year in the western Herat province.
The State Radio Television reported that the institute would provide training campaigns for farmers to cultivate saffron with a highly standard in order to gain beneficial crops.
The Afs 59 million amount of money for building the compound of the institute was paid by the ministry of irrigation and agriculture.
Herat produces good quality saffron in Afghanistan. The Afghan Saffron has been recognized as the best saffron of the world.
It is worth mentioning that local farmers have turned to the cultivation of saffron, a far more lucrative crop that has been recognized as the best globally for eight successive years.
Afghanistan has produced more than eight metric tons of the plant last year, described by some analysts as “red gold.” One kilogram of saffron sells locally for at least $1,200 and in world markets it can even be traded for $4,000.
The saffron cultivated and produced in Afghanistan has been recognized as the best in the world in quality for the eighth consecutive year.
