AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Expressing concerns over growing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan following the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Kabul, the United States of America called on the two neighboring countries to work together to achieve the shared goals of eliminating terrorism. The US State Department spokesman, John Kirby briefing the newsmen said elimination of terrorist safe sanctuaries is in the immense interest of Afghanistan and Pakistan. “Efforts should be done to reduce the operational capacity of the Taliban insurgents on both sides of the border,” he said.
Hinting at the recent suicide car bombing at the Kabul International Airport that left 5 people killed and 16 wounded, he said that it is the time for Afghan and Pakistani leaders to jointly work in a bid to achieve the shared goal of defeating violent and extremists. He said that the people of both states have suffered a lot at the hands of terrorists. “The recent series of suicide attacks in Kabul have resulted in hundreds of casualties, in which at least 56 were dead, including children and women. “It show that how much cruel the insurgents are having no regard for the lives of innocent Afghan masses,” he said.
He assured that the US stands beside Afghans and still committed to work closely with the Afghan government. “We work with both, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to achieve a stable, secure and prosperous region,” he remarked.
Kirby termed Afghan-initiated peaces talks with the Taliban as one of his country’s objective. He went on to say that these attacks indicated that Afghanistan remains dangerous place and the Taliban still using violence as a lever of terror.
