AT-KABUL: In an attempt to up the ante against allegations of Hezb-e-Islami political party of Afghanistan, lead by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar vis-à-vis large-scale voter registration fraud, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Wednesday argued that such claims were baseless without justifiable proof.
“Nobody has the right to sling accusations against the election commission and such claims as fraud in voter registration should be corroborated with substantiated evidence,” said the IEC spokesperson, Sayed Hafizullah Hashemi.
“No stickers have been sold in the market and those who accuse the IEC of illicitly selling stickers are obligated to substantiate their claims with concrete proof,” he said.
He showed his readiness to cope with any wrong or invalid election process, but the numbers of voters which revealed by IEC is authentic and accurate.
This comes as recently Hekmatyar lashed out at IEC, terming it as fraudulent process arguing only 3.6 million people have registered to vote.
In his press briefing, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami has recently told newsmen the figure of 9 million that has been revealed by IEC is false.
But IEC gives assurance over creditability with pressingly emphasis on nine million voters that so far been registered.
