AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A commander and seven members of Afghan Local Police (ALP) joined Taliban ranks in northern Sar-i-Pul province, said a local official.
Amanuddin Aman, spokesman for Sar-i-Pul police, said that seven ALP personnel along with their commander joined the Taliban in Kohistanat district of the province.
Aman said that the ALP members had links with the Taliban in the past and they had helped the militant group to enter the district.
He said that the remaining ALP members continue their fight against the Taliban in the district.
Aman said that additional troops have been sent to the area to clear the district from the Taliban.
This comes at a time that more than hundred Afghan soldiers surrendered to the Taliban in Warduj district of Badakhshan province the other day, who were later freed by the militant group.
