KABUL – On the second anniversary of the closure of secondary schools for girls in Afghanistan, Amnesty International has issued a compelling statement, demanding the urgent restoration of educational opportunities for girls in the nation.
“Thousands of Afghan girls’ futures and aspirations hang in the balance,” Amnesty International emphasized. “It’s been two years since the ban on girls’ access to secondary education in Afghanistan, and the situation remains unchanged.”
The human rights watchdog has underscored the imperative for accountability on the part of the Taliban. They stated, “Despite assurances and promises, the Taliban persists in denying girls their fundamental right to education and continues to subject women and girls to gender-based persecution.”
Amnesty International is calling for immediate action, urging the de-facto authorities of the Taliban to swiftly reopen secondary schools for girls.
