KABUL: In the wake of new changes in the military and security leaderships, now the former Deputy Intelligence Chief Massoud Andarabi has been picked up by the National Unity Government as acting Interior Minister.
A reliable source within the government told Afghanistan Times on Monday that President Ashraf Ghani appointed Andrabi as acting interior minister, where soon to be introduced to the Wolesi Jirga for a vote of confidence.
His appointment made when Kabul city, where offenses happen a lot, spent an entire day on 26 of this month, without a single crime for the first time in nearly two decades.
In that time Ministry of Interior in a statement said that no criminal offense had been reported during the past 24 hours in Kabul city.
The ministry touted efforts of brave police and public help which made the most offense-free day since the past 17 years.
The former interior minister Amrullah Saleh who held office for a few weeks laid the foundation of anti-crime and began a revolution against the crime syndicates in Kabul. However, Saleh stepped down from his post after enrolling himself for the post of Vice President in Ashraf Ghani’s team.
Mr. Andarabi also has experiences in security sectors, he once assumed charge of the Afghan Intelligence after the former director of the National Directorate of Security Rahmatullah Nabeel resigned nearly three and half years ago. He also served as the director of operations of the National Directorate of Security (NDS).
“General Masoud Andarabi’s appointment as Acting Minister of Interior is a welcoming news. Andarabi is a dedicated soldier of this soil who severed with distinction and honor at NDS. I wish him the best of luck and I’m sure he’ll continue to serve our nation and police with valor,” Nabeel wrote in his twitter account.
