KABUL: Afghan Foreign Minister, Hanif Atmar called for a special meeting of the UN’s Security Council to seek ways for peace in his country.
Atmar made the call in a phone conversation with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in which they discussed increasing violence, violating of human rights by Taliban and foreign terrorist groups and a need for peace.
Atmar spoke about unprecedented attacks by Taliban on the people of Afghanistan that has caused great casualties and displacements.
He accused Taliban of giving chance to foreign terrorist groups to fight in Afghanistan as well as committing war crimes and violating human rights.
The top diplomat said the special meeting of Security Council should focus on Afghan peace and end of violence.
Indian foreign minister expressed New Delhi’s concerns over increased violence, insecurity and violation of human rights by “terrorist groups” in Afghanistan.
Jaishankar called the Security Council meeting important for helping a lasting peace in Afghanistan and said his country would remain adhered to its commitments on necessary consultations with Afghan officials.
India is holding the UN Security Council’s periodic presidency.
