AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The President of the United States, Barack Obama has expressed his deepest condolence to the medical professionals and other civilians killed and injured in the tragic incident at a Doctors without Borders hospital in Kunduz province, the White House said in a media statement.
The US-led coalition forces in an airstrike killed 19 staff and patient, including three children in a hospital run by Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) in the northern Kunduz province.
The statement added that the US Department of Defense has conducted a full investigation, and waiting for the result of the inquiry before making a definitive judgment.
According to the statement Obama asked the Department of Defense to keep him apprised of the investigation and expect a full accounting of the facts and circumstances.
“Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to all of the civilians affected by this incident, their families, and loved ones. We will continue to work closely with President Ghani,” Obama said.
At the meantime, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for impartial investigation in a bid to ensure accountability.
It is worth mentioning that the hospital had treated almost 400 patients in the 150-bed hospital since fighting broke out in the province.
