AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: As many as six people lost lives and around 20 houses were destroyed in separate avalanches in northeastern Badakhshan province, said official on Sunday.
Spokesman for Badakhshan governor, Ahmad Nawid Frotan, said the avalanche took place the other night in Kalafzar area of Yamgan district, leaving six people dead.
He said the bodies have not been found yet but the related officials were trying to find the bodies and hand them over to their families.
He added that the wounded were shifted to hospital by police and they were in good health condition.
He did not provide more details in this regard.
Earlier, at least seven people lost lives as a result of avalanche in the province.
The spokesman said another avalanche in Khash Dara village of Yamgan destroyed 20 houses but no one has been injured or killed in the incident.
He added that ways to the district were closed therefore they have called for help by helicopters.
According to him, heavy snowfalls have closed ways of 13 districts of the province including Yamgan district.
Badakhshan is one of the remote provinces located in the northeastern part of the country. The province witnesses heavy snowfalls every winter season which claim dozens of lives most of the years.
In 2012 more than 60 people died due to heavy snowfall in Badakhshan with more than 40 died only in Shikai district.
Thousands of domestic animals also died and dozens of homes destroyed in 2012 snowing season.
