KABUL: At least six Afghan soldiers have been killed and five others were wounded in a clash with the Taliban fighters in northern Balkh province, ministry of defense said on Friday.
It comes after the Taliban fighters had attacked security forces checkpoints in Zari district of the province.
According to the ministry’s statement, the Afghan security forces have pushed back the Taliban’s attack and inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents. However the ministry has not clarified the exact number of casualties inflicted on the militants.
Meanwhile, four other Afghan security forces have been killed in southeastern Logar province, said the ministry of defense. The attack took place in Baraki district of the province, where five other soldiers received injuries.
Earlier, the NATO lead mission and US top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Scott Miller had warned Taliban to stop violence or they should expect a strong reaction.
Since February 29th, the Taliban have continue over 2,800 attacks across the country, in which scores of civilians and Afghan security forces have been killed and wounded, according to the National Security Council.
