KABUL: At least 11 security forces have been killed or wounded after the Taliban militants attacked their headquarter in Shora Tapa district of northern Balk province, local officials said Tuesday.
Balkh Police Spokesman, Monir Ahmad Farhad confirmed the clash, saying that the incident took place on Monday night.
He said the Taliban has also suffered casualties in the clashes but didn’t provide details about the number of causalities.
“Reinforcements have arrived in the district and the area is under control of the Afghan forces,” he added.
However, the Taliban group claimed that its fighters killed dozens of Afghan security forces in the clash.
In the meantime, over 30 police personnel, including the district governor and police chief have been under siege of the Taliban militants in the Darzab district of northern Jawzjan province.
Provincial Governor, Lotfullah Azizi, said the district was siege by the Taliban militants and Afghan forces have set back close to the district bazaar. According to him, so far no reinforcement has send to the area.
However, a member of Jawzjan Provincial Council, Hafizullah Nadrat said the Taliban would capture the government forces if the reinforcement were not send on immediate time.
