AT Monitoring Desk-The Interior Minister has ordered a series of security enhancement measures as the time window for the parliamentary elections is winding down, Zamannews reported.
Wais Ahmad Barmak during video conference on Sunday ordered zonal commanders of security forces and police chiefs of 34 provinces to adopt all-out measures to beef up security for polling centers, candidates and election staff.
This comes in the wake of concerns raised by candidates over security threats and calls for concerted efforts.
“Police officers who renege from their duties and fail to ensure security for elections will be fined, and those who discharge their duties effectively will be rewarded,” said Minister Barmak.
The Minister of Interior directed security commanders to prepare a list of their military needs to help them repulse insurgent attacks on police outposts and prevent casualties.
Senior Deputy Interior Minister Akhtar Mohammad Ibrahimi too joined forces with Barmak to call on security forces to tighten security ahead of polls and not let anybody hijack elections.
