AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Interior Ministry said Wednesday it has tightened measures to ensure election security on Saturday in a bid to thwart any potential terror threats, amid fears polls would be widely disrupted by mayhem and marred by fraud.
In a press briefing, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak assured of fully security measurement to be placed for the forthcoming election to be held on October 20 across the country.
5,070 polling stations will be opened, Barmak told newsmen, adding security forces alertly would keep security for the Afghan masses in the national day of voting.
Unfortunately, so far 10 Wolesi Jirga hopefuls killed in different act of violence across the country with the latest one occurred today in volatile Helmand province.
Abdul Jabar Qahraman, a candidate vying for parliament was killed by a bomb planted under his chair at his campaign office in Lashkargah, the capital city of the province.
The blast also left seven of his campaigners critically injured.
The Taliban insurgents claimed the responsibility as previously the extremist group warned to sabotaged election process and would not deter to target candidates and polling stations.
The insurgents even warned Afghan people of pitfall consequences unless they rule out participating in parliamentary election.
